Documented … Read more Rare, extra large, vintage Murano hand blown opalescent white Italian art glass hanging pendant lamp shade with crown decoration. Documented to designer Ercole Barovier, for Barovier and Toso, circa 1957. The series is called "Vetri Opalino a Fiamma", and is published (see last photo). The color areas of the shade are made in a technique similar to "Ambrati". It is covered with layers of silver leaf (some of which you can see), which triggers a chemical reaction within the opal glass layers, creating a look with amber, orange, blue and green hues. This particular piece has a flame or crown design around the bottom, and the top. The bottom of the shade is rounded with a smooth edge. Heavy piece. Midcentury era. Measures: 15 3/4" tall x 8" at the widest part.
