18th century; Florence, Italy
Probably Italian stone pine
This pair of Italian two-drawer bedside dressers from the 1700s showcase a lovely aged patina. Traces of an early mustard-toned paint emerge softly beneath a later layer of painted creams and eggshell whites. The drawers and sides of the dressers feature a trace remnant of applied stencils in a faint grayish-black.
The drawers feature their original iron ring pulls, flanking each drawer. Notable is the exquisite and graceful serpentine form of each dresser, complimented by the curving apron and cabriole legs.
The surface of each dresser is painted in a muted grey-blue, perhaps intended to originally imitate a solid stone surface.
