Antique 17th century English Charles II needlework panel circa 1680.
The embroidery depicts King Charles II and wife Catherine of Braganza flanking an oak tree with acorns surrounded by woodland creatures including a deer, rabbit, squirrel, bee and birds, accompanied by a lion with metallic thread mane. Detailed with an image of Hampton Court Palace, flowers and a sun with a face in the background. Beautifully rendered with textural variation, including green to yellow-brown ombre along the leaves and hills, with beige, blue, and pink accents throughout.
Presented glazed in a gilt wood frame. Wear and loss consistent with age. The frame with chips and loss. Overall presents well.
Measures 17 1/4" x 13" x 1 1/2" framed; 14 3/8" x 10 1/4" sight.
