A Handana is a special type of stand used to support Buddhist sutras or other sacred texts during recitations in temples or private shrines.

This reading stand features a drawer with a copper handle at the bottom. At the top, the elegantly shaped stand is visible, with a slanted surface for placing the texts.

The Handana is lacquered according to Japanese traditions and has decorations and accents in gold.

For example, the reading plank is supported by two gold-colored metal Komainu (狛犬) or 'Foo dogs,' symbols from the Shinto religion.

This unique Handana is a rare and historically significant object with great decorative value.
