This colourful poster was created to promote an exhibition at the Denise Rene Gallery in Paris in 1968. The show featured Josef Albers' recent paintings and graphic works. Denis Rene opened her gallery following WWII and was instrumental in launching the careers of abstract artists across Europe. Her gallery - still open today - was the subject of an exhibition entitled "Denise René l’intrépide, une galerie dans l’aventure de l’art abstrait" in 2001 at the Centre Georges Pompidou.

Josef Albers was born in Germany and was first known for his role in the Bauhaus school. Forced to flee Germany, he immigrated to the United States and became head of painting at Black Mountain College. He later taught design at Yale University and published works on colour theory. In his lifetime, he exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan and his works are now held in collections around the world.

This poster is in good condition and ready to be framed. There are some fold marks in middle and along the edges. See less
