A scarce ancient Mediterranean earthenware handleless amphora, most likely Greek, dating to the Hellenistic period (323BC-30BC), having a simplistic sculptural silhouette, with extra wide circular rim, over tapered bulbous body, with hand turned ribbed effect, no handles, displayed on a later tripartite iron stand.
Commonly used to transport wine, olive oil and water, and occasionally as a storage jar, today this remarkable vessel makes for a most charming objet d'art, fascinating historical artifact, decorative organic modern decor or minimalist vase.
