Excellent meissen porcelain genre group: the father in domestic garb (housecoat over elaborate house clothes, slippers, high cap) sitting on a cushioned bench and busy supervising his three children: a small boy in a white shirt and turban adorned with feathers on his head standing on his father's left thigh, the girl in the dress balancing on his raised left foot, the third child - another small boy - climbing onto the father's right knee, the family dog sitting next to the bench watching the scene benevolently, an elegant lady's hat lying on the floor beneath the father's feet. The group is based on an oval meadow plinth with frieze decoration on the sides and gold rims. This design is based on drawings by johann eleazar zeissig, known as 'schenau' (1737-1806) and represents the ideal of the family in the age of enlightenment, just like the groups of figures created ten years earlier by michel victor acier (around 1772 - 1775): 'the good mother', 'the joys of marriage' or 'the happy parents'. Designed by johann carl schönheit (1730 - 1805) in 1788 started working as an apprentice in the meissen factory in 1741 and has been in a responsible position since 1768. For more than 20 years, schönheit was an employee of both j.j. Kändler as well as from m.v. Acier, who entered the meissen factory in 1762. After kändler's death in 1775, schönheit was head of the model department until 1794.
