Rare Early 20th Century Etching "Rachel" by Henry Brewerton Quinan C.1920
Beautiful etching by Alaska artist H.B. Quinan of his wife Rachel, possibly for Woman's Home Companion.
Note the Alaskan tribal art on the wall next to the sitter.
Plate dimensions 9.35" wide x 13.5" high
Paper dimensions 12" wide x 17.5" high
The etching is in very nice antique condition. The paper shows ample foxing (outside of plate marks) - suitable for framing.
Born in Sitka, Alaska on Nov. 10, 1876. After graduating from UC Berkeley in 1897, Quinan studied art in Paris for many years at Académie Julian under J. P. Laurens. By the 1920s he had settled in NYC where he was art editor for Woman's Home Companion until 1940. He retired to Stamford, Connecticut where he remained until his death on May 21, 1948.
