Richard Anuszkiewicz (1930-2020) was born in Erie, Pennsylvania to Polish immigrants. His parents worked in a paper mill. While he was still in high school, Anuszkiewicz studied under Joseph Plavcan, whom he later described as his most significant influence. His training included the Cleveland Institute of Art, and later the Yale University School of Art work Joseph Albers. Anuszkiewicz was a leading figure in the Op-Art movement of the late 1960s and 1970s.
