Made in the Early Victorian … Read more This really is a Beautiful - Exceptional Antique American Coin Silver Mustard Pot with Spoon. Made in the Early Victorian era. It is Completely Hand Made with classic Hand Chased Floral Decoration. The top has a Figurative Sea Snail Finial. It still retains its original hand made - cut crystal insert. The Front is Engraved with the family Name "Williams" - and is dated 1850. It is also Dated 1850 below the handle. It has No Maker or Other Marks. The Spoon is Marked Sterling with a N. G. Wood & Son Maker Mark. The Early American Silver Makers adopted the Coin Silver Standard up until around the mid 1860s at which point in time they started to adopt the Sterling Silver Standard. American Coin Silver has a 90% Silver Content, and Sterling Silver has a slightly higher 92.5% Silver Content. Pure Silver is 99.9% Pure - That is to say that it Contains No Other Alloy Metals. Some of Pieces of American Coin Silver items that were produced were marked "Coin" - but it should be Noted that many of the other pieces that were produced during that period Have No Silver Mark At All. Once the Sterling Standard took hold the vast majority of the Silver Pieces that were produced by Numerous American Silver Companies were marked "Sterling".
