It is an extremely rare design plate that is characteristic of the period. It exemplifies the finely detailed motifs using nature scenes and floral sprays. The soft lavender- purple and blue hues are emblematic of the period as well. This selection is particularly unique with its delicate gold metallic ink in the bamboo which shimmers in light as would the silk threads typically used in early Showa kimonos. In the 1930’s the Japanese government began a campaign of frugality as military demands increased. Steel industry conved silk making machinery for military purposes and kimono designs became more sober with smaller motifs. Thus, this kimono design is increasingly rare in its beauty and delicacy. 9 x 12 1/4 inches in size. Excellent condition. (Minor spot on left middle side that does NOT impact beauty of image.) The woodblock is custom matted in a neutral 16 x 20 inch mat and works perfectly in a standard size frame. Please allow time for custom matting. See other kimono woodblocks in our shop. See less
