It is an extremely rare design plate that is characteristic of the period. It exemplifies the finely detailed motifs using nature scenes and floral designs. Early Showa kimonos often had large design elements. This selection is unique in its simplicity and its soft blue color tones. The Japanese were using silk for their kimonos during the early Showa period. However, in the 1930’s the Japanese government began a campaign of frugality as military demands increased. The steel industry converted silk making machinery for military purposes and kimono designs became more somber with smaller motifs. Thus, this kimono design is increasingly rare in its beauty and delicacy. 8 ¾ x 12 inches in size. Pristine A+ condition. The woodblock is custom matted in a neutral 16 x 20 inch mat and works perfectly in a standard size frame. Please allow time for custom matting. See other kimono fashion designs offered in our shop.
