style Dante chairs made in the 1920s. These well designed and
sturdy chairs have been newly upholstered in a luxurious soft
brown leather. They do not fold.

FUN HISTORY FACTS: This type of chair was used by Roman
commanders as it was a practical, portable folding stool on long
campaigns throughout the empire, thus, it was called a campaign
chair. The earliest images of these chairs are found on ancient
Roman coins. The campaign chair evolved from a portable wood
stool to bronze and iron covered in fine velvet, silk, or leather.
The most common name for the chair is Savonarola after Girolamo
Savonarola, a 15th century Italian priest who used this style chair
in a Florence, Italy convent. The Dantesca or “Dante” chair was
used in the Italian Renaissance which is in the style of the
Savonarola made to look like it folds but does not. It always has
a seat and a back. See less
