Richard Marshall Merkin was a celebrated American painter and arts educator known for his fascination with the 1920s and 1930s. His art often captures the essence of the interwar years, showcasing lively scenes of jazz musicians, film stars, and sports icons in striking colors. Renowned not only for his artistic talent but also for his unique fashion sense, Merkin was a true dandy of his time.
A recipient of the prestigious Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Fellowship in Painting (1962–1963), Merkin also contributed illustrations to iconic publications like The New Yorker, Harper’s Bazaar, and Vanity Fair.
