Russell Wright designed these sets for Steubenville under the name Woodfield. The exquisitely detailed oak leaf design lends itself to all the seasons. The recipe for gorgeous speckled grey and soft salmon pink color of the glaze, however was flawed. As with many mojolica designs, the pairing of delicate molded plates and thinner glazes created a recipe for scarcity. Even at the time they were made they were considered more art than china and would have been used only on special occasions. Few of these plates survived and most have crazing or chips. Of this set, two of the plates have tiny chips in very inconspicuous spots, but there is no crazing on any of them. There's an extraordinary six sets in here- a collectors dream. I would highly recommend these for display on a wall or other prominent place. These are a rare and historically significant design in the American arts pottery movement- honestly I would put them above Vernonware and even poppytrail metlox.
The cups are 5" x 4 "x 2.25", the plates are 9 x 9 x .75
