(1812-1848)
This pair of lithographs is from the series of 26 views of Jersey, published in 1847 by Day & Son Lithographer (after the paintings by John Le Capelain) to commemorate Queen Victoria’s visit to Jersey.

The lithographs are entitled St. Ouen’s Bay, Jersey and Bouley Bay, Jersey.

Born in London, Le Capelain later moved to Jersey where he learned his father’s trade of lithography. He was a self-taught painter. After Queen Victoria’s visit to Jersey in 1846, his series of paintings of the islands’ scenery was presented to her as a gift. This led to later commissions from the Queen.
