This elongated wooden box is made of light paulownia wood and decorated with hand-painted Japanese calligraphy.

Originally, these types of boxes were used to store and protect Japanese scrolls from the wear of time.

The inscriptions indicate that this Kakejiku-Bako comes from a Buddhist temple.
