A pair of mid-18th Century etchings. The artwork displays key characteristics of neoclassical art with its carefully arranged elements and a central focus. The figures, urns, and decorative borders draw inspiration from ancient Greek and Roman art.
Vincenzo (Vin) Brenna (1747-1820) was born in Florence, Italy. He was an architect and decorative painter who was active during the Neoclassical period, which followed the Renaissance. He's known for his work in Poland and Russia, where he designed and decorated palaces for royalty and nobility. He gained recognition for his architectural and decorative work in Warsaw, Poland. He later became court architect to Tsar Paul I of Russia and designed several palaces, including St. Michael's Castle in Saint Petersburg.
