The highly complex eggshell lacquer technique also called Coquille d'Oeuf was used in ancient Asia and later revived by the French designer Jean Dunand in the 1920s. It involves the application of tiny shards of eggshell placed under the lacquer to create wonderful patterns of design. It was also used by Jacques Adnet, Sandoz and other period designers.
