The ensemble is made up of an oval table and eight shieldback chairs. The table has a removable leaf, allowing the owner to manipulate the size of the table when needed. The chairs have a shield shape back with ribbon designs, typical of Hepplewhite’s style, with hand-caned seats on a trapezoidal frame. The wood itself is a warm yellowish-gold with close grain. Satinwood can transform to a rich buttery satin-like finish when polished. It is sought after for its use in marquetry, is exceptionally hard, and has a natural luster to the surface. Deemed as the 'wood of kings', this dining set is incredibly unique and rare.

Hepplewhite’s furniture is characterized by the use of contrasting veneers called marquetry, as seen throughout this ensemble. He primarily used mahogany but also satinwood, rosewood, and sycamore.
