A large 18th c. verdure tapestry fragment of a garden path under a vine laden arbor. A thistle plant, symbol of protection and of the Virgin Mary, guards the entrance of the garden. Along one side of the path is a fountain, symbol of spiritual life and salvation and also of the Virgin Mary. At the end of the path is a light filled arched doorway or opening, symbolic of the vault of heaven. The simple and striking composition of this piece makes it appropriate for contemporary or traditional interiors.
The tapestry is in very good to excellent condition and has been lined in an acid free linen and surrounded in a simple, two-toned border. It is presented on a removable bronze colored metal rod and suspended by an adjustable rope.
