Sculptural design by the Italian-American sculptor and designer Harry Bertoia from 1956. The construction made of welded wire rod was revolutionary at the time and brought the artist international attention. Today, Bertoia's wire chairs are icons of mid-century design.
The chairs appear light and airy, yet are stable and comfortable. Art historian Brian Lutz commented on Bertoia's work as follows: "Bertoia's paintings were better than his sculptures. And his sculptures were better than his furniture. And his furniture was absolutely brilliant".
