Superior Japanese four panel Byobu style screen featuring a competently hand painted landscape with five officials riding over a plains on horse back. On a square 'gold leaf' background that can be seen when the light is angled. The squares of gold leaf have a gentle glimmer especially when light is directed on to the piece.
Gouache and ink on silk. Signed and sealed on the middle left by the artist and set in a gloss rosewood frame with a deep brick red brocade border and brass corner embellishments. The back is unusually clothed, traditional 'gold' coloured cloth with a Japanese lucky coin design.
Can be hung on walls, placed on a console - this has a variety of uses and looks great anywhere.
A classic Shōwa era piece probably made for the Chinese export market.
