A sizeable, heavy and rather magnificent hand painted antique porcelain covered bowl/container from China, hand decorated in thick rich enamels … Read more A sizeable, heavy and rather magnificent hand painted antique porcelain covered bowl/container from China, hand decorated in thick rich enamels with a scenic 'courtyard' panel and lords, attendees & swordsmen on the top and a multitude of colourful white cranes and black bats on the side, along with pink and yellow auspicious ruyi. Traces of gold on officials robes can be seen.
Such pieces are based on an old design from the Song Dynasty - such porcelain 'boxes' were used to present expensive or precious gifts on special occasions such as births, (in this case) weddings or Chinese New Year. Nowadays can store a multitude of items in the home.
Made in the Second Quarter of the 20th. Century - Da Qing Jiaqing Nian Zhi - "Great Qing Jiaqing period (1796-1820) made" however this piece is made. later.
This large container has a multitude of uses around the home - for storage or otherwise.
Snug lid or top, traditional and symbolic in style, all very auspicious.
Stamped with a 6 character seal on underside.
It's unusual to find one in excellent condition.
