An exceptionally fine carved and gilded ca. 1790-1800 Italian mirror with its original mercury glass mirror plate. The design is very decorative: an encrustation of gilded bell flowers and beading ornaments the entire frame. More bellflowers form the larger draped accents above and below the frame along with carved ribbons and the handsome urn in the crest. Good antique condition, signs of age: antique mirror with the "starry sky" effect as well as some desilvering and a round bulls-eye spot of light partial desilvering. Gilding skillfully refreshed, typical knicks, small losses.
