Winslow Homer (1836-1910) A native of Boston, he grew up in Cambridge. At the age of 19, Homer started an apprenticeship with J.H. Bufford, a Boston lithographer. His first assignment was creating the illustration for the sheet music for "Katy Darling". This sparked his professional artistic career which led him to become one of the foremost artists of the 19th century.
