Crafted in France circa 1950, the colorful figure, titled "Insouciance," captures the carefree spirit of childhood through its charming expression and relaxed posture.

The sculpture depicts a young barefoot boy seated casually on a rustic stone wall, wearing traditional country attire. He is dressed in a white shirt with rolled sleeves, a rich burgundy vest, dark knee-length trousers, and a wide-brimmed green hat accented with a red band. His curly hair frames a cheerful face with a gentle smile, while one hand rests on his knee and the other holds a small object close to his chest. His bare feet rest naturally on the rocky base, enhancing the figure's playful character.

The sculpture is beautifully hand painted in a rich polychrome palette of burgundy, green, brown, and cream, with carefully modeled facial features, clothing folds, and textured stonework. The rectangular base bears the molded inscription "INSOUCIANCE," meaning carefree or lightheartedness in French, perfectly reflecting the subject's youthful innocence.

The terracotta figure is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, retaining its rich painted finish and attractive aged patina. A charming decorative accent for a country home, study, or children's room.
