It … Read more This Really is an Outstanding Example of a Authentic Antique American Primitive Stoneware Storage Jar - Crock. LARGE SIZE!. It is Embossed with a Number 3 Confirming its Three Gallon Liquid Storage Capacity. It is Also Embossed - Signed by the Documented Maker BRADY & CRAFT in ELLENVILLE NEW YORK. Records Indicate that The Partnership and Production of SAMUEL BRADY & FRANK S. CRAFT Was Quite Brief - Only Lasting From Approx 1880 to 1881 Making this Piece of Antique American Stoneware a Bit of a Rarity!. It is Rendered in Classic American Stoneware Form - Shape with the Added Feature of Applied Handles - "Ears". The Front of the Jar has a Very Large & Elaborate Hand Decorated Deep & Rich Cobalt Blue Color Stylized Flower Decoration. The Interior is Done in a Dark Coffee Brown Color. Back in the Day These Types of Stoneware Items were a Necessity in Most of Americas Farms and Household's and They were Made - Intended For Everyday Utilitarian Use. These Types of American Stoneware Items we Completely Hand Made out of Indigenous Clay on a Potters Wheel from Start to Finish and Therefore No 2 are Absolutely Identical. This Jar Style was Commonly Used to Store and Preserve Many Types of Liquids and Foods. It is in Very Nice - Strong - Sound - Usable Original Condition and it Displays Beautifully. Imperfections Noted - It has Some Tight Hairline Cracks ( Cold Weather Freezing Related ) at the Base Perimeter and Bottom Areas but These Have Been Epoxy Filled - Stabilized & Strengthened ( See Last 2 Photographs in my Listing ). Note Also that it has a Rather Unusual Glossy Salt Glaze with some Thick - Heavy Patches that are a bit Darker & Crystalline These Being Kiln Flaws that would have Occurred in the Actual Making - Kiln Firing Process. Stoneware Pieces Like This were Fired in Very Large Kilns with Many Other Pieces at the Same Time so Kiln Flaws Such as These are Quite Common.
