Three lively flamingos, hand blown by glass artists in the style of Murano Glass animal sculptures. From my own experience at a Murano glass factory on the island of Murano across from Venice, Italy, I surmise each sculpture is made in two parts, the bird and the glass base. It takes a very talented glass maker to form the bird form from melting a strand of lavendar glass in the hot kiln and turn and shape the body in a matter of minutes. I do not have the evidence that these birds were made by Murano glass artists, but they are very similar to their
One of the better know glass factory of Murano, an island across the bay from Vence. Factory is a misnomer, it is more like an intimate shop with a few hot klilns to finish the glass products. The glass makers are skillful and through years of practice, they just know how to work the glass materials to turn them into beautiful sculptures. Each bird is slightly different in size and look. The lavendar glass color is rare. The shop label is long gone from the 1950's, the period when the standing flamingos were made. The reason why they are called Murano style because there is no label to identify them as such.
I watched a glass making demonstration in a glass factory in Murano in 2019. I can just visualize how these birds were made. After the bird form was made, the glass was hot enough to be expertedly placed onto the clear glass block which was hot from the kiln and the adhesion was immediately.
