The 1st softcover edition book features a monograph survey of more than 60 of the celebrity portrait photographs of the photographer Annie Leibovitz. It is published by Pantheon Books / Rolling Stone Press a division of Random House Inc. New York, printed in Japan in 1984, with an introduction by Tom Wolfe.

Anna-Lou " Annie " Leibovitz ( B. 1949 ) is an American portrait photographer. She is best known for her engaging portraits, particularly of celebrities, which often feature subjects in intimate settings and poses. Leibovitz's polaroid photo of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, taken five hours before Lennon's murder, is considered one of Rolling Stone Magazine's most famous cover photographs. The Library of Congress declared her a " Living Legend ", and she is the first woman to have a feature exhibition at Washington's National Portrait Gallery.
