Stunning munumental Japanese 6-panel byobu (screen) depicting a graceful landscape with red-crowned and sandhill cranes, and bamboo in a pond. Yamato-e style. Gold foil myst sprayed on paper after the painting was finished. This gives a glowing effect to the art piece. Gouache and ink on paper. Silk border. Lacquered black wood frame with exquisite engraved bronze corners and medallions showing dark age patina. Paper on back. Very detailed. Stunning colors. Nearly Excellent condition - minor age wear overall, no major damages to the painting or back, couple repairs on the first panel, minor repair on the lower hinges between 4th and 5th panels. Sturdy, clean. Japan, Meiji era, c. 1880 - early 1920s.
