Set of two, gorgeous hand decorated vintage Japanese Chabako Tea Chests. Covered with beautifully patterned heavyweight washi paper. Constructed of cedar and lined with tin sheeting in the traditional manner.
These are vintage Chabakos (probably from the 1960's) that were decorated in the 1990's (in Tokyo) by the original owner while taking a class in Tea Chest decoration. The paper covering on each is meticulously done with excellent attention to detail.
A few small scratches/abrasions are visible on the larger box, and some of the glue holding the paper around the inside perimeter may need to be reapplied. Otherwise both pieces are in excellent vintage condition.
The Large box is 27" L x 17" D x 19" H
The Smaller Box (which can nest inside the larger box) measures 20.25" L x 14" D x 16" H
Boxes will be shipped as one package with the smaller box inside the large box packed with care.
