Fine Late 18th Century hand colored etching illustrating a detailed example of a Roman Chariot and Armor. The Italian scripted inscription below drawing reads in English "Etruscan metal chariot two Lucavas in the game of Centurion Marcos Aurolio". The Roman Empire concerqured England in 43 AD. Many British towns still bear the names given during Roman times. Romans were known for their chariot races and sporting games, and took pride in both their chariots and highly decorated detailed clothing, armor. Plate No XXVI displayed in upper right hand corner below the plate line. Paper in excellent condition, no foxing, marks or tears.
Presented in an aged patina 1" copper frame, off white linen mat with silver leaf gilded bevel, under non glare True Vue glass. All acid free materials. My late husband framed artwork in 1990.
