A qalamdan is an ancient fountain pen / writing
instrument travel case used by Middle Eastern merchant traders, scribes and business owners throughout the middle ages up to the early 20th century.

Handmade in the early/mid 19th century, the important Qajar period antique comes from the height of when Middle Eastern Islamic art, craftsmanship and decorative arts flourished. Crafted from lacquered wood and papier-mache, rich polychrome painted with intricate Bohemian flower / floral and foliage motifs, having rounded ends that slides out to reveal a long storage compartment, Arabic inscription to interior, likely signed by the original artisan that made it 200 years ago. Beautifully aged distressed patina adds to the overall antique character and authenticity.

This small sized objet d'art is interesting, eccentric, and uniquely decorative, sure to add a
