A group of 17th and 18th century currency shell rings from Papua New Guinea.
Carved from the Tridacna Gigas, or giant clam shell, these rings were objects of prestige and wealth among the Abelam people in the East Sepik Province. Two shells feature kokomo or incisions on the edges. Each is displayed on a custom stand.
Acquired in the 1970's.
Largest measures 8.25" Wide and 7" High
Mounted heights are 9.25", 7", and 6.5".
