Originally conceived for storing and cooling bottles of wine and spirits, this oval cellarette is hand‑made in rich mahogany, raised on four slightly splayed tapered legs. The carcass is encircled by broad brass bands to the base, body, and lid, creating a sophisticated contrast with the warm timber and visually “belting” the form in classic Georgian fashion.

Each side is fitted with a cast brass lion‑mask handle with ring pull, a quintessential Regency and late Georgian motif evoking strength and nobility. The hinged lid is decorated with an oval satinwood inlay featuring a conch shell and foliate device – a refined neoclassical emblem associated with luxury and travel.

The mahogany retains a mellow, waxed surface with a gentle sheen, emphasizing the figure of the wood and attesting to careful maintenance over time. Inside, the original tinned lining is evidence of its first purpose as a wine cooler.
