This lovely, antique hand-colored botanical aquatint etching of an Amaryllis is elegantly matted and framed, ready to display. It makes a charming addition to an entryway above a console table, creating an inviting atmosphere for guests as they enter your home. It’s also an excellent gift for botanical art enthusiasts or plant lovers.

The etching features the small striped Amaryllis (Amaryllis vittata minor) after a drawing by Priscilla Susan Bury (1799 - 1872), a botanist and flower painter from Liverpool. Bury was self-taught by observing rare and exotic plants on her father’s estate. The aquatint is plate 40 from A Selection of Hexandrian Plants, Belonging to the Natural Orders Amaryllidæ and Liliacæ, was engraved and published by Robert Havell, Jr. (1793–1878) in London around 1831–34. The edition was limited, with only 79 subscribers, including notable figures like Audubon, which explains its rarity.

Examples of her work are housed in prestigious collections, including Princeton University, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, and the New York Public Library.
