Crafted in Northern France circa 1880, the substantial rectangular safe weighs 52 pounds and features a striking two-tone black and silver finish with a rich, aged patina.

Built for security and durability, the heavy iron box features a hinged lid decorated with raised Gothic-style letters and numbers, complemented by a sculptural grapevine motif with clusters of grapes and scrolling branches. The decorative border is embellished with incised geometric patterns, while a sturdy iron carrying handle rises from the center of the lid. The contrasting silver accents stand out against the polished black surface, giving the utilitarian piece a distinctive architectural appearance.

The lid opens to reveal a spacious interior compartment, ideal for storing jewelry, valuables, important documents, or personal keepsakes. The original-style locking mechanism includes a key, adding to the box's functionality and historical appeal.

The antique French strongbox is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, retaining its rich patinated finish and solid construction. Both decorative and practical, this substantial Gothic-style safe would make a distinctive accent in a gentleman's dressing room, office, or traditional library.
