Bess Haddon Canright: Olvera Street, Los Angeles, circa 1930, drawing of two men on Olvera Street. Art is 16 x 12, framed 22 x 17.5. Exhibited at Something Revealed; California Women Artists Emerge, 1860-1960 (Pasadena Museum 2018-2019)

Born in Michigan on March 24, 1887. Canright settled in Los Angeles in 1928 and worked as a freelance artist. In her leisure she painted still lifes and other subjects. In 1936-38 she exhibited as Bess Canright Doxsee. Late in life, she headed the art department at Whittier College. She died of heart failure at Riverside (CA) Hospital on May 1, 1958. Exh: Egan Gallery (LA), 1932; Artists Barn (Fillmore), 1938.
