This is a very rare original poster produced in a small unnumbered edition on the occasion of the exhibition West Coast Duchamp held at the Shoshana Wayne Gallery in Los Angeles in 1991. The exhibition presented a recreation of Marcel Duchamp’s legendary first ever career retrospective organized by Walter Hopps at the Pasadena Museum of Art in 1963. The featured work is Julian Wasser's iconic photograph of Marcel Duchamp playing chess with a nude Eve Babitz in the gallery of the exhibition with his artwork, “The Bride Stripped Bare by Her Bachelors, Even” directly behind them. The landmark 1963 west coast show is widely considered to be one of the seminal exhibitions of the post-war period and a defining moment for a generation of artists who would go on to revolutionize the contemporary art world.

Clean, strong impression, high quality lithograph on heavy metallic silver colored paper, float mounted in a stainless steel frame made by a shop that does work for many premier art galleries. On close examination there are a few scuffs and light scratches on the plexiglass and the stainless steel frame has an aged patina. Note, the image is printed on silver colored paper and due to this it’s slightly darker than a black and white photograph; in strong light it’s bright and vivid. This is a rare, scarce vintage original poster published by the Shoshana Wayne Gallery in 1991 for the exhibition West Coast Duchamp. Framed 36.5”W x 26”H x 1.5”D. less
