A pair of cast iron Cape Cod fisherman bookends. The fisherman smokes a pipe and is reading the newspaper ‘the I&M’. Engraved on the back; "Cape Cod Fisherman, Copy Right 1928” with the Connecticut Foundry mark.
The Connecticut Foundry was established in 1919 after the building burned down and was rebuilt in 1918. The company made a wide variety of items of cast iron, from range oil burners, piston-ring moldings and lawn mower parts to bookends and decorative plaques. The company remained in business until 1983, when it closed on March 30.
