An antique English Arts and Crafts vase from Bretby Art Pottery. The substantial, hand-thrown vessel is decorated with an artistic mottled glaze in matte green. Very good condition with crazing visible inside and on the base, measuring 7.25 in. height x 4.5 in. diameter (at widest), marked BRETBY [sunburst/rising sun logo] / MADE IN ENGLAND / 91C [shape number] on the base.
The Bretby Art Pottery (Tooth & Co. Ltd.) was established in 1887 by Henry Tooth and William Ault at Woodville in Derbyshire. The company specialized in handmade ceramics with unusual glazes.
