This is a fine antique woven tapestry from Rajasthan that was probably hung over a door or entrance of a tent. It is very tightly woven of a mixture of wool and goat hair for extra strength. All the dyes are vegetable. The back cloth is a heavy, beautiful hand loomed linen. Very thick and strong.
I photographed the back of the rich woven front piece to show the condition is excellent. The piece has been carefully stored flat in a smoke free house.
The colors are a rich combination of red, black, and yellow.
My son brought this back from a textile and jewelry buying trip in 2001. It was bought from a well known antiquities shop in Jaipur which was noted to have fine vintage fabrics,
