It is a stunning, Italian giltwood, trumeau mirror in the style of Enrico Braga, the Italian Swiss sculptor: The giltwood, neo-classical frame features a magnificent 'bas relief' panel with cherubs and flora, a common theme dating to antiquity. Because the frame is carved wood -- not the far more fragile gesso or plaster -- it is in superb condition, with few signs of age. The finish has a beautiful, aged patina. We have not determined the stone from which the bas relief is carved. In any event, it is cold to the touch, as proper stone ought to be. The detailed craftmanship is beautiful. The frame contains the original beveled mirror. We have identified no chips, flaws, or imperfections despite the mirror's age. (Our best estimate is that the mirror dates from the 1920s to 1940s.) The mirror is fairly massive with dimensions of 46 inches tall by 24 inches wide (the outer frame measurement). This rather ornate frame is 2 inches deep. The mirror itself (the looking glass) measures 23 1/2 tall by 15 1/2 inches wide. . See less
