Exceptionally beautiful organic, natural object that fits perfectly within Japanese aesthetics.
Wood type: Yakusugi (屋久杉)
This item is beautiful from all angles and becomes even more stunning when combined with plants (ikebana), making it a versatile interior object. Burl wood, known in Japanese as "Tsuge" (椿), refers to the wood that comes from the growths or knots on certain tree species, especially trees like the mizume (Japanese horse chestnut), keyaki (Japanese zelkova), and others. These growths are round, knobby formations that occur on the trunks and branches of trees and are highly valued in Japan.
