This is an awesome handmade “punch rug” made in the 1960’s or 1970’s. It is beautifully mounted on a rustic wood top frame.
From my research, the original canvas was marketed by the American Thread Company, under the name “Aunt Lydia’s.”The title was “Federal Eagle”.
The wood frame bar is stained dark brown with a hit of dark red. The solid wood frame bar is U-shaped, hollowed out in the center to fit the top of the rug with thin nails. I do not know what type of wood it actually is, as well if it is handmade (?)
It appears to me to me hand crafted and is solid, sturdy and has a nice weight. Uniquely designed frame has a beveled edge at the front top, not the standard square. There are 5 edges to this frame. This frame compliments the art in color, texture and design. It blends well with the art.
As seen in the photographs, the frame bar extends approximately 0.50”, on each side of the art.
I do not know what type of yarn was used on the canvas. It is ready to hang, with beautiful details and rich colors. It has been well cared for over the years.

There is no fading, no bleeding of colors and absolutely no odor. The backside of the off-white burlap edging is stained, from age. This is shown in detailed photographs and does not reflect on the art, just its age. less
