Castelli is … Read more This is a pair of 20th Century large tin-glazed majolica portrait tiles produced by Castelli ceramiche in Italy. Castelli is renowned for its rich tradition of ceramic art and production, particularly in the realm of hand-painted tiles. These portrait tiles are in deep shades of indigo, goldenrod and green and they are a coordinating pair of male and female. These are think and large tiles with approximately 1 to 1.5 inches thick, 11 inches long and about 6 inches wide..
Castelli is located in Abruzzo in central Italy and they have been known for the "Maiolica" since the Renaissance period. These are in good vintage condition. One has a small bit of flaking in the corner and a little divot that was repaired on the reverse (so not affecting the front surface). We will be listing a few other pottery pieces that coordinate.
