Spanish tables pre-20th century featured less ornamentation than Italian and French offerings of the same time. Hand-carved additions, such as the two rows of shallow, triangular key patterns seen on the apron of this three-drawer console table from the 1800s, were more subtle, as Spanish woodworkers concentrated on functionality and simplicity in design.
This beautiful table features a single plank of chestnut wood, with a drastic overhang to the three belt drawers with pendant pulls. Interestingly, the thick drawers facades are carved from oak wood. Beneath the drawers is a highly shaped apron attached to undulating open lyre legs, which were hand-carved from ash wood. Our antique console table features the use of attractive and well-patinated mixed woods, combined with an interesting and somewhat primitive Spanish style. It would be a beautiful compliment to a variety of interiors.
