This Antique Chinese export NanKing Store silver ice bucket is complete matching tongs.
The bucket is decorated with a magnificent detailed dragon that circles the bucket.
The dragon is chasing the sacred pearl; the pearl represents wisdom, which the dragon pursues while trying to attain enlightenment. This is a popular theme in Chinese and Japanese art.
The circular pearl, to the front of the bucket, doubles as a cartouche for a monogram. It contains the initials ‘TCR”.
The retailers mark of ‘Nanking Store’, a Shanghai based jewelers, can be found on both pieces.
Nanking Store was based at 444 Szechuen Road, Shanghai and in business between 1895 and 1940.
Measures 5 1/2” W x 5” D x 8 1/2” T ( 5 1/4” with handle down).
