A captivating pair of antique lithographs celebrating the beauty and richness of Persian costume. They are hand-colored with exquisite detail and subtle gum Arabic highlights. The male figure, titled "Afghan d’Herat", is after Eugène Flandin and comes from Galerie Royale de Costumes (circa 1840s). The female figure, after Achille Devéria, portrays the celebrated actress Mademoiselle Rachel as Roxane from Racine’s Bajazet, taken from Costumes Historiques de Ville ou de Théâtre et Travestissements (circa 1830s).
Nicely matted and framed, these lithographs offer a refined homage to Persian elegance as seen through 19th-century French artistry.
